Venturing to Valparaiso, Chile

Updated: Sep 17, 2019

Valparaiso was one of the most mesmerizing places I have ever been. I love how colorful everything was. We booked a day trip through Viator which was perfect.

They picked us up at our hotel, drove us to Vina Del Mar, where we got to stop and see some cool landmarks.

Then we went on to Valparaiso and started our walking tour. The walking tour was fascinating. Our tour guide was excellent, she was so knowledgeable and energetic.

Coming from Chicago where all the building are neutral colors, it was refreshing to be walking through the streets of such colorful surroundings. We learned that the buildings were painted with excess paint from the ships that come and go through the port here. That is why the buildings each have so many different colors on them since they used what they were given.

The streets were all cobblestone which makes you feel like your taking a step back in time. It wasn't the easiest to walk on, but it was beautiful!

Every building we passed was so unique it was fascinating to see what would be around every corner.

Most of the buildings had graffiti on them which was seen as a good thing rather than bad. The owners will actually scope out artists to pay in order to create a beautiful mural on the side of their buildings.

After our walking tour we headed out for lunch with the tour at Oda Pacifico. This amazing restaurant overlooked the ocean. Sitting and eating with the other people in our group was enlightening to hear everyone's stories. There were so many people coming from so many different places traveling for all different amounts of time. However, we did meet one couple who had mutual friends! Just show's you how small the world really is!

After lunch the bus took us to #casablancavalley where we did a #winetasting at Vina Indomita. This was one of the most beautiful wineries we went to while we were there. The view was great, but the wine was better.

One of the employees walked us through the different wines they make, took us on a tour then we were able to sit down with our group and enjoy the different wine as well as the view.

Once the tour was over we headed back to #Santiago where the bus dropped us all off at our respective hotels. At that point we packed up our bags and headed to the bus station to embark on the next part of our trip to Pucon Chile. Check out our thoughts on Pucon Chile Here!
