Bringing it to Buenos Aires, Argentina

Updated: Sep 17, 2019

We spent the longest amount of time in Buenos Aires throughout this trip. It was such a beautiful city with so much diversity throughout it! It's crazy how different each area of the city is!

We splurged a bit on our hotel here as it was the longest stay of our trip. We got a room at Hotel's by Polermo and chose a room towards the top of the building and the view was well worth it! It was also in a nice part of town, super close to a bunch of great activities.

We planned a city tour through Viator at the beginning of our time in Buenos Aires so that we could get our bearings of the city and figure out all the places we would want to go back and discover more.

One of the coolest, and probably most famous spots we stopped was Caminito Street. The colors here are astounding. We loved walking around and taking it all in. There were also some awesome shops throughout!

The Pink house and the area around it was also awesome, and quite a contrast to Caminito Street.

While we were in Buenos Aires we looked up cool bars to go to and found this awesome speak easy walking distance from our hotel. It was called Floreria Atlantico. When you get there it looks like you're walking up to a flower shop. Once they let you in you go towards the back into what looks like a refrigerator for the flowers and you'll find a staircase going down to the bar. It was a super cool vibe and was well worth the trip. The drinks were great!

If you find yourself in Buenos Aires you MUST go to Steaks by Louis! This was recommended to me by a coworker and I know why! It's a five course steak dinner served as a "traditional asado". Call ahead and make a reservation as it is a more intimate setting.

The idea comes from back when the economy was hurting and families would eat out less. Chef's would host customers in their homes to cut down on overhead costs. So as you walk up the the "restaurant" it seems like you are walking into a house. We were super thrown off by this but as more people arrived we realized what we were doing.

All the guests (about 20 people) sit at one long family style table so you converse as if you were at a dinner party.

Chef Louis (behind the table on the left) walks you through what he will be cooking for you and his coworker (on the right) explains how these dinner parties traditionally go.

As Chef Louis prepares the meal you are encouraged to drink one of many glasses of wine as well as meet with those around you.

We bonded with everyone around us over the interesting meats and other items of food we had been trying. That might have been the best part, listening to everyone's stories and hearing where they were from. We got to know a family from Argentina, a couple from the U.K., two friends from Brazil, two friends from New York among others! We had a blast talking with them and it really made this experience magical!

After three courses we got our steak which was exceptional! I am shocked I was able to even eat it after having tried so many other foods, but I'm glad I did!

Dessert was great too, you can always manage to find room for it! After this meal and all the wine that came with it we decided it would be best to walk home to work some of that food off. It was an excellent experience and I would totally recommend going! If I ever find myself back in Buenos Aires I would definitely do it again!

For the remainder of our time in Buenos Aires we wandered the streets, tried all sorts of restaurants and breweries, and of course went through some shops.

The Cementerio de la Recoleta was just on the other side of the park from our hotel. We have been passing it for a few days now and always noticed it's beauty so we had to go in and see it.

On one of our last days in Buenos Aires we took the Buquebus ferry over to Uruguay to visit Colonia. It was a super quick and cheap trip and was worth it to see another country! Colonia is a very old and small city that is full of history.

It was the perfect little day trip to take from Buenos Aires but you probably wouldn't need much more than that as you can walk through the entire town in about an hour.

It has such a different vibe from Buenos Aires and was interesting to see and a great way to check some countries off our #bucketlist.

As our trip came to an end we packed our bags to fly over to Mendoza for some wine tasting. Check out our thoughts on Mendoza Argentina Here!
