May was our last full month together here in Mexico City, and it was great. We gathered a list of some activities we had wanted to do but haven't found the time for and made them a priority.
In the beginning of the month we went to a restaurant called Azul. Nate had been there before with people from work and liked it which initiated our trip there. We both enjoyed it a lot and went back a second time with visitors we had throughout the month.
The following weekend we went out to the pyramids with Christiane. It was amazing walking up to the ruins and seeing the massive structures for the first time. The pictures don't do it justice, it's truly incredible to see the large structures and think about how they were built back in the day.
After our stop at the pyramids we went to a restaurant I've been dying to visit. It was called La Gruta. It's just outside the pyramids. The restaurant itself is a sight to see! You walk up to the hostess stand and see the stairs below leading you to the cave below where you see dozens of colorful tables. The food was good, but the atmosphere is really the selling point!
We were home one of the weekends in May for a wedding but when we got back we celebrated Nate's 25th Birthday. On that Friday we went with friends at an oyster restaurant called La Docena. It was really good! After dinner we went back to Tomas and Rafa's apartment where I learned to play poker. We always have such a good time with them!
The next night Nate and I celebrated together at the worlds largest revolving restaurant, Bellini. It was super unique and we got some awesome views of the surrounding city!
We had an awesome time in May, but we were sad that it meant we were quickly approaching the end of our time in Mexico City. I was only there for a couple more weeks before I left in mid-June, but we still did a lot! We went to see Lucho Libre one weekend. Nate has been there before, but this was my first time. It was a super unique experience! Not something I expected to like, but it was a must-see thing when in Mexico!
Of course we had to go check out our favorite brunch spot, Freims, one last time before I left!
We also made reservations for Pujol, one of the most famous restaurants in Mexico City. This was on our bucket list since day one. It was an unbelievable experience, but make sure to book in advanced because reservations are rare! We used this as our anniversary dinner. There's several courses, all with their own unique twist to them!
On my last week we got one final dinner with Christiane. She had been such a good friend to us during out time in Mexico city and we were going to miss having her on our next six month as we go off to Cartagena, Colombia and she heads to Boston. We're excited for the next part of our journey though and we cant wait to share it with you all!
