There's nothing I love more in the winter than a nice heat pad, hand warmer or electric blanket. These are an obsession for me and one of the best investments I have ever made!

I came across these cute little hand warmers on #pinterest and decided I had to try and make them myself!

Here's how I did it!

What You Need:

How To:

  • Cut your 100% cotton flannel fabric into 5" squares (2 for each hand warmer) *Don't use polyester or types with metallic threads, it can melt in the microwave!

  • Using a 1/2" seam allowance, sew around three sides of the squares, leaving one side open to fill with the flax seeds.

  • Fill each flannel pocket with 1/2 cup of whole flax seeds. We chose flax seeds over rice because it smells better when heated and the oil inside the seeds can hold heat longer than rice. They can also be reheated more times than rice can!

  • Next, sew the final side of your square closed. It is easiest to do this carefully without pins or clips, but try different methods to see what works for you!

  • Grab your pinking shears and trim the four edges of your hand warmer to give them a more finished look. This also prevents fraying while looking cute at the same time!

  • Heat your hand warmers in the microwave for 30-60 seconds and enjoy the warmth!

These are great to keep for yourself, gift to others!
